ABOUT US
Store History
Local chef Carl Meisel began teaching cooking classes at North Salem High and from home in 1978. In 1980, he opened Carl's Cuisine, a kitchen store and cooking school. He was joined in 1981 by co-owner Jo Taylor, who brought her kitchenwares marketing experience. The store moved to its present location in 1983, under the Chemeketa Parkade in downtown Salem, Oregon. The two remained successful business partners until July 2014, when they retired and sold the store to the current owner and chef, Amy Church. In September 2015, the store was re-named Willamette Valley Kitchen Company, with a fresh new logo highlighting Amy's love of local Oregon strawberries.
For over thirty years, Carl's Cuisine offered top-quality products including gourmet kitchen equipment, fine cutlery, hard-to-find gadgets, and exciting cooking classes. Willamette Valley Kitchen Co. is proud to carry on this tradition of excellence. Our friendly staff is always available to answer your questions, suggest the perfect gift, or help with a special order. Stop by any day of the week and say hello to Amy, Diane, Karen or Elisa!
Community Involvement
All of YOU in the Salem community offer your support to local small businesses such as ours. In return, we pledge to give back to the community. Our owner Amy is proud to be a Board Member of Salem Harvest, which works to end hunger in our region by harvesting local fresh food that would otherwise go to waste. Every day at our store, it's easy to add a $1, $5, or $10 donation to your purchase, 100% of which goes directly to Salem Harvest. Every holiday season, we also donate a portion of the proceeds from our popular Holiday Appetizers cooking class to them.
The very best way you can support Salem Harvest is to contribute! Thanks for your help!
